Writer's Block: How I got on LJ

Why did you first open an account or get involved?

View other answers

I don't know who, or what it was, but I know a few friends that had it and so I decided to join up. I was in such a bad place in my life that at that point I was willing to try anything. LJ just happend to be another outlet for all the things I had been holding on to for such a long time.

Looking back on some of my original posts....man I was in a bad way.

We got hitched!

I'm sorry I haven't posted since getting back, but its all good. So to recap:

The wedding was amazing. The weather was perfect. The clouds were just right. The people were outstanding. Everything was as it should be. I/we could not have asked for a better time. The weather was windy and kind of stormy when we got there, then just like magic it cleared up and continued to clear up all the way through the wedding. We had great weather for the honeymoon (save for the chilly water). We did get some rain on the second to last day, but that was ok, because it gave us an excuse to hang out in the room ;). Pictures? Yes. Here's one to get things started.

Click here to go see more. This is by no means all of them. That will be coming in due time. This is simply the ones I got around to uploading. So enjoy and leave some comments!

Reception part I. Saturday night was the first of 2 receptions for this never ending wedding. I have to say, it was one of the best parties/receptions I've ever been to. Granted it was for our marriage, it was still a blast. I think the food was on point; everything was prepared as we had hoped and based on the feedback of everyone there, they all enjoyed it. We danced, we drank, we drank, we drank, we danced, we ate, we drank, and we drank. I have no idea how much I had to drink, but I do know that all the movement and the food that I ate helped me not get smashed. I would like to give a HUGE thanks to Justin and Nicola for hosting us at their house after the reception and an even bigger on to Kim and James for taking us home. I don't know what we would do with out you guys. I'll put pics of this online as soon as I can go through them all.

Thanks again to everyone for everything. So far this has been the greatest thing that has ever happened.

The other day someone asked me "are you the kind of man that celebrates each year on the day of the anniversary or do you do monthly or what?" I told her "I celebrate daily." How could I not, when I get to be with the most wonderful person in the world. I don't want to say "she completes me" cause it's more than that. So everyday I celebrate the anniversary of the best day of my life.

That's all I have for now, sorry for the length...or maybe I'm not.

:)

So many words, so little time...

This will be my 3rd LJ that I’ve written and not posted. I tend to get lengthy in my initial posts then I get over what ever is on my mind and then never post anything. Not today. Today is a quick recap of this past weekend’s festivities.

Pumpkin Carvinganza:
First off, thank you to everyone for coming out. It was a blast. I had a ton of fun and we carved some pretty amazing pumpkins. We even had a Down syndrome pumpkin (Snaggletooth as we called him). Thank you Jenny for tanking a good deal of photos.
Click Here to see the awesomeness.
There’s still a ton of food and beer if anyone wants to come by and get something. Good mix of friends and from what I’ve heard everyone had a good time.

Bachelor Party:
Jager(x6) + Beer(x?) + Crown(x1) + Crown and Coke(x1) + Royal Flush(x?) + other stuff = WTF!? That was a fun night. The Cheetah = HD porn. That’s really about it. Not the best place. The women were attractive, but the system to get a table or dance is wack. Mardi Gras is much better (I never thought I’d say that). I remember few things once we got there. There were lots of drinks coming my way, I was spanked with my own belt on stage, and I peed in the parking lot. The next thing I know, I’m waking up on the floor in one of Neal’s spare bedrooms. I was told I was put on the futon, but I don’t remember any of that. Sunday was painfully good. Thank you to everyone for making this a “memorable” night.

So that’s it. The last weekend before we leave for Bermuda. 1 week from tomorrow, I’ll be a married man. I can’t say thanks enough to everyone for being there for us through everything. We really do have the best friends ever.

emo...something to laugh at

so a coworker and i were talking yesterday and we got on the topic of emo kid and what not. she said the funniest thing ever.

the other day my kid started crying because someone called him "emo"

she was totally being serious. i've seen pics of her kid (he's like 12 or something) and he looks a bit emo-ish. this made me crack up. i told her that was the funniest thing ever and she too thought it was funny. even though it was her kid, it had that certain ironic twitst to it that just made it funny.

i haven't posted in like a bajillion years, but i thought this was worthy of a post. other than this thing are pretty much the same as they ever were.

man jobs

ok, so i don't claim to be the most handy around the house. i can fix things that need to be fixed and what not, but typically i envision it one way and it turns out a different way. this was not the case with my latest project...

the grill. so a few weeks ago my old nasty natural gas grill caught on fire. i'm pretty sure it was from a leaky gas line, rusted out bottom, poor ventilation, etc. so i decided that i was going to fix the grill. my first task was to replace the hose that caught on fire. i went to the depot and got a new hose (one that was made for a gas dryer…but hey, it worked). i got that sucker installed and was pretty proud of myself. the grill would still catch on fire if i lit it up. so my second task was to put a cut off valve somewhere in the line that runs from the house to the grill. for this part i had my dad come over with the pipe cutter thing. i had recently purchased the flaring tool, but he had the cutter. so we got the valve put in and sure enough…i could stop gas from coming to the grill. now why did i not do the valve first? well for some reason i couldn’t find the cut off under the house and so i changed the hose with the gas on. natural gas in the face does not make for a happy day. so i decided to put a cut off before venturing any further on the grill.

ok, so after i got the new hose, the cut off and the grill cleaned out i noticed that the burner thing as rusted to hell. there were holes where there shouldn’t be holes and it wasn’t really attached on the inside of the grill anymore. so i went back to the depot and they didn’t have anything that was the same size, so i got something slightly different. i got home and realized that it wouldn’t really fit with out some macgyvering. so i got out the trusty dewalt and made some holes where there weren’t holes before, found some nuts/bolts and put them where the new holes were and tightened the thing down. NOW the new burner burns more efficiently AND it gets hotter quicker. w00t!

so now i have practically a new grill. burgers anyone? i’m proud of myself. it was a job that i set out to do (and over several weeks of trial and error) i got it done. that’s all i have to report really.

until next time…GET TO IT!!!

i don't really have anything to post about, but i ran across this "joke" you may/may not get it. i want to put it out there anyway.

enjoy:

An SGML fan, an XML fan, and an HTML fan are watching a movie when they notice smoke coming out of a trashcan.

The SGML fan says "We must convince the theater management to hire an expert to write a DTD for emergency-announcements, and sell them an expensive application for archiving announcements, and get them to hire a team to convert all their old announcements to SGML!"

The XML fan says, "There's no time for that! We must train all the audience members to recognise XML, and then start a committee to investigate the possibility of starting negotiations to form a working group to write a paper on the future evolution of emergency-announcement semantics!"

Meanwhile, the HTML fan takes out his wireless PDA and types in:

<h1><blink><font color="red">FIRE!</font></blink></h1>

which he quickly hacks the digital projection system to display, saving the lives of everyone in the theater.

so quickly while i have your attention. since my last post: a)i've gotten engaged, b)got a new job, c)seen LOTS of movies, d)been to the hospital with maggie, e)made some new friends, f)helped people move, g)played a LOT of warcraft.

that's really about it. to everyone that has something positive happen in their lives GRATS! to those that have not, i truely am sorry. i read these everyday. i may not post comments, but i care about each person. i'll keep you in my thoughts.

i'll post again in the future...i promise.

Year in review...

Ok, so I haven’t posted in ages, and I figured today would be a good day to do so. But then I thought, who are these things for anyways? Do I post looking for advice on something, do I have some great insight that no one else has? Not that I am aware of, so this is going to be for me, somewhat of a retrospective of the past year. It’ll prolly be long, so I’ll make a cut, this way if you want to delve deeper into my world, my life you have that choice, and won’t be bombarded with it as you pass over it to read some one elses.

So this is how it goes. In 2004, I found out that my mom had breast cancer; this was about 2 weeks after my girlfriend at the time broke up with me. We had been dating for a little over 5 years and had been living together for 3+. I had the ring, I had a plan, (all before she left) but in my heart I knew that it was a fleeting attempt. If there is one thing I can thank Katie for, it’s leaving. That was one of the nicest things she had ever done.

Then I found out about my mom. I love my mom more than anything and this devastated me. Hell, I took my Christmas tree down before Christmas. I was over there as much as I could be there and Christmas was a pretty depressing day. Oh, in November I found out that my Dad had undergone heart surgery (7 bypasses) while I was on a cruise. So in less than 2 months: Dad – surgery, Mom – Cancer, GF – left. Man that was shitty ending to a sub-par year.

Then came the New Year’s party. This was going to be my new beginning. I got there with a group of friends and started having a few drinks. Up until this time, I hadn’t drank heavily, but I figured there’s no time like the present to start. Then what to my wondering eyes should appear… a beautiful woman, and 8 bottles of beer (the beer I made up so that I could have a rhyme). In walks Arrie Brown. I had never met her before, but knew the moment I saw her that I wanted to. I spoke with Sean, Neal, and Rick and found out who she was and a little about here and proceeded to talk. This turned out to be one of my best nights ever. I had more fun in that 1 evening, for those few hours than I had had in the past several years of my life. I had never met anyone that would give me the attention I was receiving. I enjoyed the company and everything about that night.

The following day, was where it all went wrong. I got ill, very ill. I’m not sure if it was the constant, inside, outside, second hand smoke, drinking, etc. of the night before, but I was sick. I spoke with Arrie and let her know that I was sick, and if she got sick that I was sorry for that. The next day I had to go to the doctor and while I was there I had a sudden urge to tell them about everything in my life, I began to cry. I told her about my mom, dad, girlfriend, job, everything and the doctor said that I was most likely going through mild depression. What better way to cure depression that a prescription for meds. On the way home I had a choice. I could either spend some money on the pills and God knows what they would do to me or I could fight it. What better way to fight temptation than with exercise. Work off that aggression, tension, need, hate, fear, emptiness, extra pounds I had put on over the previous years. So I joined a gym.

So here I was a full fledged gym member. I was going like 2 or 3 times a week. I started feeling good about myself. In the mean time, my mom was going to the doctor, and I was going with her. FMLA to the rescue! I could take every other Monday off and be with my mother. I had also found a room mate. Sam

Sam is a cool guy. He lived in the hated orange room on his air mattress. We talked about guy things and hung out. It was cool, I had never lived with a dude, and I’m glad Sam was there. But as time went on, I began to get more confident in my self. Sean, Rick, and Neal had introduced me to the strip club. This was a magical place full of magical women…they had a way of making things disappear, mainly money. I went through a lot of what I had and that is a HUGE regret of mine. I wasted a lot of money, and in retrospect “turned to the dark side.” Hell, I was looking pretty spiffy from going to the gym, but that’s all I had going for me.

Then one of my best friends Jenny introduced me to Friendster.com. I signed up, and started playing around and was like; “I wonder if there are any females in Powder Spring that actually use this thing”? Then out of the blue I came across this photo:

I read the profile, and got up the balls to actually send her a note:
Hey, I was just looking around and noticed that
some one else actually lives in Powder Springs. I
figured I'd say hi. I am interested to find out how
someone who is from out of state ends up in this
little town.

Oh, I like your b&w photo.

Later,
Ben.

What did I receive in return:

Oh, how I ended up in Powder Springs is a long
story, but suffice it to say I'm here after roaming
from apartment complex to apartment complex all
over town and finally biting the bullet and deciding
to buy a house rather than throw away money on
rent every month. I couldn't afford a house in
Dunwoody by myself and don't like having
roommates, so...I'm here. It's a killer commute, but
I can hang out on my deck at night and see the
stars, and the SuperTarget in Hiram kicks ass, so I
guess it's an even trade.

Are you from here, or are you an import, too?

Yours in mouth-breathing and stomach-sleeping,
Maggie

How could this be? Another cute girl might be interested in me? I’ll go for it. So after a few notes back and forth we decided to meet…I drove the 4 miles to her house and we went to dinner. I thought to myself “this girl is fascinating, but it can’t be true.”

It was true, and she is the reason that I am where I am today. The rest of the year is all over the map, but suffice to say that it was both the best and worst year (December to December) I’ve had that I can recall. Granted I still get skydiving flashbacks that cause me to have a panic attack and tense up. Yeah, I have the urge to punch things like my leg, but there are also days where I come home, see Maggie there in the kitchen cooking something or playing War Craft and think to myself, this is amazing. I have a wonderful woman, a dog and cat that actually get along now and a stable job. So what if I have really bad knees, I’ll get new ones some day. We have things we need to work through, but that is only making us stronger.

There’s a lot more to my year that I may cover as time goes on. But for now, I’ll get back to work. Its going to be a good year. I have great friends (Neal, Rick, and Sean are with out question my best friends and when I have a wedding I’m hoping they will be in it), I have a steady job where my boss just said “in the future you might be managing people over here” and a home full of love (and lots of really cool gadgets and toys).

If you’ve read through all of this mess I thank you, if not then this was a good experience for me. Actually saying (or typing) things that I have been holding in. Its hard to admit defeat, its even harder to talk about it.

is it really 1am

yeah. so this is like the first time in ages that i can remember being up at 1am on a "school night." why am i up, i have no idea. i can't sleep for some reason. earlier when we were decorating the tree i was about to fall asleep. my knees were killing me and i just wanted to lay down. now, no matter how hard i try, i can't get to sleep. boo on this. now i know what it feels like to not be able to sleep. i don't like it.

speaking of my knees, its getting to the point where extended standing (by extended i mean 2+ hrs) causes much pain in both of my knees. pain to the point where i HAVE to sit down. granted there isn't a period where i'm standing for 2 hours, but if over the course of 4 hours i stand for more than 2 of them my knees will hurt. i should prolly have them looked at. not sure what's up with that.

ok, so i meant to do this ages ago, but never got around to it. all these people posting pics and stuff got me inspired. and since i'm awake, i might as well do it. a few weeks ago maggie and i went to my parents cabin in the mountains (cleavland, ga to be precise). we had fun hanging with the folks and what not. i decided to take maggie to my grandmothers cabin down the road. before we got there i warned her that what she was about to see, was nothing short of terrifying. it, in my opinion is one of the scariest places on earth. they could do a show about this house and then have to do another one just to recap everything that was left out. so now i give you
The Grandmothers House of Impending Doom
ok, so there's the link. if you dare, take a look. if you are at all skepical and don't think that anything could possibly be that bad...here's a sample of what's inside:

incase you are puzzled at what you are looking it, it is a dolls head that has been removed from the body and is now in a ladle that is hanging on the front porch. how long has it been there? who put it there? why did they put it there? no one really knows. so i invite to you feast your eyes upon the pictures and ponder in amazement. there are things that boggle the mind in this house, and yet my grandmother still sleeps there...on occasion.

ok, so i guess i've worked up some sleepyness now and will try to go back to bed. i hope i haven't scared you too much. of course i'll prolly have some random Se7en dream about some guy how fantasizes about playing with dolls and then killing people. rawk on!

ok, so after all the build up, the sweat, the blood, the guts, the limbs, and frustration the "big" night was upon us. i rushed home and added a few touches to the yard and got everything ready. around 5:30 the "kids" showed up. by kids i mean some emo teenagers that weren't dressed up and simply said "can i have some candy" then after pillaging my bowl of treats asked what i was having for dinner and wanted to know if they could have some. what, are these kids homeless? do you actually think that after squeesing themselves into their little sisters jeans they could actually force a pieces of chicken in their mouth? alas, the "emo crew" left and we went back to finishing dinner. then we lit all the candles and turned on all the lights outside and prepared for the onslaught of candy grubbing maddness that was about to ensue.

from around 6:00 to 9:30 we had a constant slew of kids ranging from early stroler to late teens. some were so lucky as to have their parents drive their fat asses around in monstrous suv's and attempt to not hit the 40,000 kids that had the descency to actually walk the one mile that encompasses the subdivison. but all is well on this fair occassion. we had about 10 people want to take pictures of their kids in front of the house, on the house, in the house, under the house and we obliged and let them. after all we did have the coolest house in the neighborhood.

my mom came by and took an ass load of pictures...i did as well and if you want, click below to see them. here is a sample of the house in all it's glory:

Click here to see the rest

ok, this may make someone's day or it may be blasphemy on my part. i came across 4 of the HP-GOF tracks today and have put together a little page with all of them on there: http://www.thenumber3.com/HP-GOF/. i like them. its totally different from the previous soundtracks. and if you didn't know the "Weird Sisters" will be played by: Jarvis Cocker, Jonny Greenwood, Phil Selway, Steve Claydon, Steve Mackey and Jason Buckle.

happy listenting.

p.s. i made that in like 10 minutes "borrowing" from other sites, i can't take credit for any of the artwork.

The FAST HORSES in the SUPER NERD GAMING ROOM and Other Business.

Subject: The FAST HORSES in the SUPER NERD GAMING ROOM and Other Business.

From: Mr. NAVY, SWORD Supervisor

To: All Employees of STUPID MONGOOSE Inc.

It has come to my HUNGRY attention that the SUPER NERD GAMING ROOM has been BOLDLY ENDED WITHOUT with FAST HORSES. I am tired of dealing with ANGRY employees and their FAST HORSES. The SUPER NERD GAMING ROOM is meant for CLIMBING. It is not a HOUSE room.

On a more LAZY note, I would like to PUNCH all of you for the QUIET work you all did on the SANDSTONE CRYSTAL VIAL account. You should all be EXPEDITIOUSLY DELIVERED.

Also, be sure to welcome NEAL, the newest member of the TOOTHPASTE department. They will be a SLANTED WRAPPER to our family.

UNFORTUNATELY Yours,

Mr. NAVY, SWORD Supervisor.
